Types of Ports

Generally when we talk about porting we are moving services from the PSTN realm into the Hosted IP realm but services can also be moved from ISDN, DOT, VOIP and are still considered ports

There are two main types of porting Cat-A (simplex) and Cat-C (complex)

If a service is a single stand alone service then generally it can be done as a Cat-A port, this will generally take about a week to complete and cost $30

When services are part of a hunt group or have complex programming on them they will either need to be converted to simplex services or a Cat-C port will need to be submitted, if the service numbers are part of a hunt group or ISDN range then all associated numbers will need to be ported together

Once the port is complete you can choose to either keep all the numbers or release the ones you don't need back into the number pool, you can also choose to store your numbers for later use for a nominal hosting fee

Cat-C ports will generally take up to 4-6 weeks and cost up to $130

To submit a port you will need to Porting Authority Form which is attached to this article
