What type of NBN is available? - There are many different products that make up NBN.. FTTN, FTTB, FTTC, FTTP, HFC, Fixed Wireless and Sky Muster, that's a lot of acronyms!

Types of NBN
Detailed below are a few things to consider when applying for NBN, please note that Vonex Telecom does not provide or support Sky Muster at this time.
FTTN, FTTB, FTTC
These products all use the existing copper network, because of this we can keep the current PSTN services intact (much like ADSL), this is called Voice Band Continuity and will leave the PSTN intact for 18 months minimum (part of the NBN rollout plan is to eventually remove all PSTN services), when a service number is provided to connect with Voice Band Continuity a technician will not attend the premises and the NON-EU appointment will generally be between 7 am and 2 pm (again much like the current provisioning of ADSL).
When a service number is not provided we will connect the NBN to an existing but disconnected service (inactive inplace) or new copper, in both these cases an NBN tech should attend the premises and tag the line at the network boundary point (Main Distribution Frame for business and 1st socket for residential)
A specific VDSL modem will need to be connected to the phone line with a VDSL filter to allow the PSTN to work. As these services use the copper network speeds may vary depending on the distance of copper used especially with Fibre to the Node, we can only get accurate speed information after connection of the service.
HFC
This product is delivered over the existing Cable infrastructure (same cable as current cable internet and TV), there is no provision to keep your existing PSTN number as it uses separate technology and currently has no effect on your existing lines.
This technology uses a Network Termination Device (NTD) which connects to the coaxial cable and converts to an Ethernet port, this allows an Ethernet router to be connected for authentication.
FTTP, Fixed Wireless
These products are the original offering of NBN and deliver the product via fibre optics directly to the premises or over the wireless network, both use the same style of NTD which has 4 data ports (UNI-D) and 2 analogue voice ports (UNI-V), this allows your existing PSTN to be converted to analogue NBN Voice Service which can support alarm systems, HICAPS and EFTPOS etc.
With these products, you cannot transfer between carriers but as they have multiple data ports we can connect new NBN and then you will be able to cancel the NBN with the previous provider on the original data port
Please note that Fixed Wireless is only capable of 50/20 speeds while FTTP is generally 100/40.
